About the real NCLEX-RN exam

  • Computerized adaptive: the items you see are chosen from your previous answers, so no two candidates sit the same exam.
  • Every candidate answers at least 85 items and at most 150, within a five-hour limit that includes all breaks.
  • In a minimum-length exam, 52 items come from the Client Needs content areas, 18 form three clinical-judgment case studies, and 15 are unscored pretest items.
  • It ends when the computer can make a pass-or-fail decision — not after a fixed number of questions.
  • There is no percent-correct passing score to compare a practice result against.
