About the real Medication Aide exam

  • Medication Aide exists only where a state has created the role, typically as additional medication-administration authority granted to certified nurse aides.
  • Requirements, scope and examination are set entirely by each state that recognises the credential — there is no single national medication aide exam.
  • Formats vary widely. Texas publishes a 100-question examination; states using the Credentia MACE have 60 questions in two hours.
  • NCSBN no longer develops or owns the MACE and directs content questions to Credentia.

Medication Aide scope and testing differ substantially between states. CARE's questions are one national bank covering medication-administration content areas common across states — they are the same regardless of state, and they do not replace your state's approved medication list, scope or curriculum.
