About the real CNA / Nurse Aide exam
- Nurse aide certification rests on a federal OBRA-87 training-and-competency floor, but each state administers its own evaluation.
- The written (knowledge) test is one half of the evaluation — a separate clinical skills test must also be passed.
- Format differs by state and vendor. In Texas, for example, Prometric administers a 60-question written test with 90 minutes; states using the Credentia NNAAP form have 70 questions in two hours, of which 10 are unscored pretest items.
- An oral version of the written test is available in many states, usually with an added reading-comprehension section.
CARE's CNA questions are one national bank built on the OBRA-87 core — the same questions in every state. They do not reproduce any particular state's official examination, and they do not replace your state's skills checklist or approved curriculum. Check your own state's nurse aide registry for the format you will actually sit.
